Letters From Prison
Antonio Gramsci, Lynne Lawner (transl.)
Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937) was one of the founders of the Italian Communist party and a great Marxist thinker. Framed by Mussolini's Fascist courts after his activities in the workers' movements in Turin, he was kept mostly in solitary confinement and died in prison. His letters are among the most important works of twentieth-century Italian literature; on first publication in 1947 they were awarded the Viareggio prize. --- from book's back cover
